The Blue Room

We have been working on the blue bedroom at our Shabby Old House.
I found this print of Victorian Ladies and everything else started to fall into place.
I wonder what kind of dresses I would have worn if I had lived during this period.
Have you ever thought about what yours might have looked like?
I know that I would have had a cameo broach as I love them.
I started to dream of these dresses as a little girl.
This is my doll and I can still remember the Christmas that I got it. Her dress has faded with the years but she is still so pretty.
She was from Sears. Do you remember how you felt when the Sears Christmas catalog arrived?
I remember it well. Each year I would get a pretty doll.
Now she is right at home in our Victorian Cottage.
I am not quite finished with the Blue room but when I am you will be the first to see it.

Becky, those look like Godey's ladies. They are beautiful. Yes, I did dream of dressing up and having lovely dresses.

I love cameos, too.

Hi Becky!

I cannot wait to see it! Im sure it will be stunning!!!

lol, I actually ended up painting a blackboard for my kitchen using a picture frame instead. lol, I stood in my kitchen and couldn't bare to transform one of the doors or cabinets, I really thought it would be easy, but I wasn't sure because the doors were too pretty. So I used a picture frame instead. lol, oh well , Im a girl, we change our minds alot :)

Hope you had a nice New Years sweetie! Post pics of the room when your done!! Hugs, Cynthia

Hi Becky,
I would love to wear one of those white gauzy dresses with lace and pintucks and a high neck with a peach cameo and carry a white parasol and a little posy of flowers-am I too into this?
Looking forward to seeing the blue room as I love your decorating.
Take care,
Carolyn

That is my favorite era of gowns. I wish I could wander around in a bustle everyday. There's a group called the Contra dance irregulars that hold Balls and everyone gets dressed up in their Victorian finery. I've been trying o get hubby to take Ball room dancing with me for years so we could dress up. The problem with him isn't the tux and tails its the dancing part...lol!
Maybe Dave would be game.

I love that print. I can't wait to see the finished room.
I remember the Christmas catalogs. It's really a shame that they are gone. It was so much fun looking thru them.

Yep, that era is my favorite, too!
We've definitely lost the art of dressmaking!
Beautiful doll-beautiful memory...It doesn't seem all that long ago that those catlogs quit arriving!
Have a great day!

Hi Becky!

Thanks so so much for your sweet comments!!

The wall color is Benjamin Moore paints, Yarmouth Blue. But I did "tweak" it just a drop. I added a little Ben Moore Linen white to the color until it came up the right shade for my walls. I mixed in a little , id say 2 cups worth into a gallon of paint. It tweaked it just enough. :)

Have a wonderful day sweetie!! Can't wait to see your next project! xoxo Cyn

Hi Becky,
I have always loved those dresses and I adore cameos! Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong century. I absolutely love what you're doing with your cottage and can't wait to see the rest. Your bathroom is stunning! Have a nice evening.

Blessings,
Sandi
