The Bathroom Renovation

There is nothing pink about this. It is scary and yellow and blue.
Ugly ugly ugly, this one needs flushed out.
Although probably charming in its time, down the wallpaper came.
Next the wallboard came off and we put in a walk in shower.
I would have loved a claw foot tub in the bathroom but have decide that it will come at a later date and perhaps right in the master bedroom. With the need to be practical as we will be retiring in this home and Dave has already had a hip replacement having large walk in showers just seemed right.
We added the beadboard and painted it PINK . We put up wallpaper and chose a nicer throne. The tile looks like marble in grey and white. New pedestal sinks, One for him and one for her.
We added two chandeliers. The ceilings are so tall that they just look perfect.

From Scream to Dream, well sorta

I have my pictures out of order because I wanted to show you Scream Kitchen first.
This is where we will have to stay for awhile until our other house sells. I am happy with it.
You will see what it use to be like. We have come a long way baby!
I have posted this before on my Lace and Lures blog. I just needed to add it to my One Shabby Old House Journal.

This is the way the kitchen looked when we found this old house. I wrote previously that the bottle of whiskey on the counter top is not ours. It must have been the previous owners way of dealing with this scary kitchen.
Yes that is roach dust too. These things were so big you could have thrown a saddle on them and rode them in to town.
I repainted the kitchen walls and cabinets and added new hardware just to cope.
Then Dave laid the floor and added the beadboard to the walls.

This old house is held up with lots of caulk! Lol.
So there you have it so far.
But this is not the end of this Kitchen story.
I have a better vision of the kitchen but like most will have to wait. But good things come to those who wait. So wait I will.

I woke up today to a wonderful surprise. I love surprises. It was more than that though. It was the act of kindness this surprise came wrapped up in. My new friend Cori G. created a blog banner for me and gifted me with it. She had thought that the fabric I found for my One Shabby Old House would be a wonderful banner. So simple me just took the fabric laid it on the floor and put a frame around the name and took a picture. I don't have Photo shop. And it looked pretty bad. So as I said I woke up today to this wonderful gift. A Beautiful Banner from a beautiful person.
She has a beautiful blog called Gingerbread Crumbs and Company.http://gingerbreadcrumbsandcompany.blogspot.com/ . It is a beautiful place to visit and be inspired by her poems and inspirational writings of scripture. She also has another blog for tea lovers and pretty things called Brambleberry Cottage. Both are a beautiful place to visit.
It gives me joy when God places people like Cori in my path. It it to His glory that I can write of such. God Bless you Cori!

Back to the Long Hall

We've been working.

Do you remember the Long Hall?
And remember my Darling Demo Dave. Well, he has been a busy boy.
Up went the carpet and down came the wall paper.

Then we had the ceilings drywalled because of the falling plaster.

Next the cracked walls were fixed and then we painted.

And painted and painted and painted some more.

Dave refinished the floors and then the fun began
Between trips back and forth I was sewing. I had enough fabric to go half the distance of a football field. With each window measuring 140 inches top to bottom and each window needing 2 panels I knew we could not afford this project right now. So what I decided to do just may be something that will work for some of you. I purchased the insulated lining for curtains. It was $5.99 less my 40% off coupon at JoAnn Fabrics. It is a perfect weight and almost, a little bit, well sort of if you look really hard and with wishful eyes, looks like velvet. I sewed 10 panels.
On a shopping trip for my shop we stopped in Madison GA and I found these 2 vintage lace valances. They have been waiting for me to find the perfect spot. So I topped the panels with them.
And the long hall is starting to take shape.
This old rug is really worn but I love the colors in it. It never fails when I go to Eufaula no matter how well I plan I forget something or it is still being used in our home in FL so it will be interesting to see how time will change this Shabby Old House.

I will be posting the bathroom on Saturday. Can you guess why?

Fabric Information

In response to questions about the fabric. I purchased the fabric from Calico Corner about a year ago. The maker is PKaufmann however the name of the pattern is not mentioned on the side. I hope this helps you find it.

Once a tease always a tease

I'm not going to tell you what room this is going in. And I'm not going to tell you what I am making with it. But do come back because one day I will have the Big Reveal. It may take me awhile but I think you are going to like it!
And no it isn't a rug. I just stepped on the fabric. Those toes should have been painted pink for this post. And no that wasn't Big Foot!

Enchanting Windows Party

This is the Window in our Victorian Cottage in Eufaula AL. I find it enchanting and can't wait to show you it from the inside out. Hopefully I will have the room decorated by the holidays.

Highland View

An Outside window view of this wonderful patio.

This is how you got to this patio from the inside. The window goes up.

The windows you are looking at are in a house called Highland View. It was on the tour of homes during the annual pilgrimage in Eufaula held in April each year.

This home was for sale when we first discovered the town. It had been completely renovated and had a large pool with roses surrounding it. It was breathtaking. It also had a special window. I can't remember what they called it but I guess it was used like our patios are but minus the sliding door.

Money, money, money

Did you spot it? Up there on the roof. Should we have paid close attention to this little warning that is like a banner over the house.

I am hoping that it really means that there is a gold brick, or one or two or three up there and not that this house will be a money pit.

A bit of digging in the history books of Eufaula will hopefully give us the real meaning. But until then all of the home improvement stores in town know it's meaning and say, "The owners of the old Baker house are here," cha ching! cha ching!

Bring on the Blue

On Friday the 29th Cindy at My Romantic Home posted about Bringing on The Blue
So Cindy...how is this for Blue...or for making one seriously blue? This is that scary bathroom off of the master bedroom. Quick...lets move away and see something pretty before you go blind.

This is one of the many reasons I fell in love with this house. This is the dining room ceiling.
I am sorry if I have injured any eyes today. Warning...more scary bathroom work to follow.
